I'm pushing live some changes tonight, most notably:
- Speed enhancements (of course, the usual)
- New private messaging
- Swapping template engines, but this is completely internal (Jinja1->Jinja2)
- Some bug fixes, nothing critical.
Here's some of the upcoming features on my TODO:
- Edit/delete your own comments outside of the forums.
- Hide comments posted on maps/projects you own.
- Post additional screenshots (beyond the automated previews) for your maps.
I wanted to take this moment to also reach out, and see if any of you are interesting volunteering on the site. There's a few areas where you can help:
Python/C++
Not so much the website, but various components that it utilizes. A big one is going to be the bot which tracks games that I dont have time to write.
We utilize mostly Python technology with come C-Python extensions. These include Django, Jinja2, our own version of GhostBot, libmpq, and some custom parsing extensions.
Moderation
This can be in several areas, from comments/posts, to the pending changes areas. I'd like to keep getting things cleaned up and enhance the quality. I'll requiring recommendations for this one if you're interested.
Spreading the word
By far the best job, that everyone can do ;)
Looks good, except for:
"- Hide comments posted on maps/projects you own."
which is a horrible idea, especially if the comment is a non-spam negative review. Better off with a "Mark as spam" flag, and if enough people mark it, it is removed.
Yea, I tend to agree with azala, it might be an area better not touched.
As for helping out, if you need another moderator I am happy to help approve things.
As for enhancing quality, I have a few suggestions but we seem to want to have as many maps as we can have on the database so you probably wouldn't like them :D. Though people should be able to find things if they know what there looking for, and its categorized. Speaking of which we need a sports category.
The 'Send Message' button for PMs should be black to match the 'New Thread' and 'New Reply' buttons on the forum pages. Would also make it a little easier to spot. Otherwise it works perfect being in the same place.
Clicking on the title of a sent PM doesn't go anywhere, just causes a bit of loading, appends '#p5' to the address bar, and still only shows the first portion. Might have the same problem on a received PM, but I can't check because I haven't gotten one yet.
Confirmed on both Chrome and Firefox.
Also, I changed computers since seeing the button last, but its black now (was a dark gray). Bravo if you changed it already or lolwtf if different versions of Chrome were displaying it differently (this machine auto-updated Chrome about a week ago, but the other hasn't yet.)
Had actually changed it already, and tweaked a few more things :)
I'll check into that bug, its supposed to redirect you to your sent message, but as you can see the messages were kind of rushed.
Gonna fix that, add support to actually delete them, and add highlights for unread messages.
So since the last website change I guess...whenever I log on using internet explorer as soon as I change from the default log on page it "logs me out" and I have to log on again. So I currently can't post or reply to anything on this site without using firefox. Not sure what the issue is exactly. Hopefully it will fix itself :-).
Not quite sure why that one is happening. It's nothing that was changed (unless somehow the sessions aren't storing right, but I'm not having the issue).
Pushing live some additional changes right now though.. (check for "recommendations" on the map sidebar).
Hmm weird, well I just checked it still only lets me login and as soon as I click on another page I am logged out. I will try clearing cache or something tomorrow.
So tonight I went ahead and quickly rebuilt the message system. I had a few mistakes in the previous one, and it just wasn't efficient enough for what I wanted to do. That is now live, but you've lost any messages you sent (which I dont believe were any except a couple to me). You will also now get an email notification of a new message.
I also put live the initial concept for map recommendations. I'll be tweaking this in the coming weeks, but the idea is similar to Netflix. Show you related maps, which you should like if you liked the map you're viewing.
