Welcome, to the closest thing to tennis that you'll play on starcraft. Now you don't have to be a pro at tennis in real life to be good at this game (though knowing the rules would help).
At the beginning, first player chooses the match points. Then, first player starts with a serve. You get 5 places to choose were to serve from. Then your opponent's team will return it using one of the shuttles commands (which are to hit, hit left, hit right, curve left, curve right, lob, or drop). If you let the ball go out the opponents team gets a point (but watch out and don't hit the ball too far left or right or it will go out before it bounces). The out of bounds area depends on if you have 1 or 2 people on your team to consider where "out" is located. (yes you may play a match 1v2 but i don't recommend it).
Now each time you hit the ball, you get one gas (energy). You need a certain amount of energy to hit the ball certain ways. A good strategy is to use the "Hit" command a couple times then smack a good lob or drop ball on your opponent when they aren't expecting it.
Serving goes in a circle. After first player serves it once then second player serves... etc. I know that this isn't the order you do it in real life tennis but, this isn't real life tennis. Besides it's more fun if everyone gets to serve.
Here are what each hit does:
Hit - (0 energy) - a normal hit that sends the ball to center of opponents court.
Hit Left/Right - (1 energy) - a straight hit that sends the ball in the direction that you choose.
Curve Left/Right - (2 energy) - a hit that turns while moving in the direction that you choose.
Lob - (4 energy) - a hit that your opponent can't touch until after the ball goes 4/5's of the way down the court. You need to be far from the net to return this one.
Drop - (4 energy) - a hit that will bounce twice very quickly right after it crosses the net. You need to be close to the net to return this one.
The point system goes as follows. If you hit the ball, and earn a point, you get 15. The next point, your score becomes 30 then 40. If you and your opponent both have 40 points, the game goes to Deuce. In this game, instead of calling it "deuce", I make you and your opponent's score go back to 30. To win a game, you have to get above 40 points while your opponent's score is still 30 or below. Now, in this game there is no tiebreaker, so when your team gets the exact amout of games that you set the match to in the beginning, it transfers into a set. Same goes with sets turning into a match.
I really hope you have fun playing this game. Took me a while to make.

Come play maps like this @ Op NFLx on USEast!
Excellent Tennis Map! This is as close to the real thing as it gets and its tons of fun! Also very easy to pick up, I was playing with a Korean earlier who spoke not a word of English and even he managed to pick it up during our game :-).
Only issue I noticed is if someone drops/leaves when it is their serve you are kinda screwed.
Briefing is very detailed, though also very long, I suggest you read the map description above and save yourself a long briefing read.
