I played only UMS maps on Broodwar, and I've been trying to track them down again in hopes to maybe recreate them or find the creators and encourage them to recreate them in SC2.
It's only two maps I'm really looking for, and should be easily found since if I recall from memory they were quite popular. There is this one series of maps, involving Zombies. It was really two maps that I can remember, the first one involved an outbreak on a ship and these maps were very difficult. You couldn't play by yourself or you would lose. Plus the creator made a mechanic that you would lose if it wasn't 2+ players. The zerg were using those custom colors you would get from mods for the map editor, and all had certain code names, mainly just bunch of numbers and such. There was a secret on the first map that if you go into a corner you could select one of the creatures as a playable creator but as a stronger version. The second map of that series, I think your leader turned into a zombie or something and the ship had crashed. The nearby town was infected and you had to go through it.
The second series of maps, it was a really unique game style where it was sort of just normal. You were playing one unit, while your base was actively building and preparing armies to send out. Like an AI vs AI. Except your guys were trying to stop this power hungry Archon unit. His name was usually part of the title, and you always had to kill him. there were many maps involving him being resurrected.
