• CALGARY -- World champion downhiller Erik Guay headlines Canadas ski team for the next racing season. Alpine Canada announced the 31 athletes -- 20 men and 11 women -- who will compete on the World Cup circuit next winter. Guay, from Mont-Tremblant, Que., salvaged an injury-plagued season for Canada by winning this years mens world downhill title in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He also had a pair of top-three results on the World Cup circuit. The mens speed team carries the most potential for medals. Three-time World Cup winner Manuel Osborne-Paradis of Vancouver and 2009 world downhill champion John Kucera of Calgary are returning from injury, as are veterans Robbie Dixon of Whistler, B.C., and Francois Bourque of New Richmond, Que. Calgarys Jan Hudec, a world silver medallist in 2007, is also on the squad. "This is a strong team that we believe can compete with the very best in the world," athletic director Robert Rousselle said in a statement. "We had a challenging season last year due to injuries but our athletes still delivered some strong performances. "The returning athletes are key players for our team. They are veterans and leaders who will raise the level of competition." Whistlers Michael Janyk and Julien Cousineau of Lachute, Que., who was fifth in slalom at the world championship, lead the technical team. Among those also named to the team was Erik Read, son of Ken Read who won several World Cup medals racing for Canada. The womens team lacks the depth and experience of the mens squad. Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., ranked in the top 20 in giant slalom and super combined. Anna Goodman, of Pointe Claire, Que., and Marie-Pier Prefontaine, of Saint Sauveur, Que., are the other veterans on the technical team. The retirement of veteran Britt Janyk earlier this week leaves Kelly VanderBeek of Kitchener, Ont., and Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont., as the prominent members of a small womens speed team. Both VanderBeek and Yurkiw are coming back from knee injuries. Canadas skier are currently dryland training in Calgary. The 2011-12 World Cup season opens at Solden, Austria, in October. wholesale jerseys. The Devils added two more early in the second and it was uphill from there for the Jets, who were coming off an impressive road win in Ottawa. The teams were cautious but traded chances in the first as Jim Slater and Nik Antropov both had opportunities early to score the games opening goal. cheap nfl jerseys. The outfielder went 0 for 4 in Monday nights series opener as the Orioles lost 2-1, then called head trainer Rich Bancells. "Last night when he got back to the hotel he called Rich and he said that he had some tingling, numbness in his fingers," manager Buck Showalter said. http://www.cheapnfljerseysmall.biz/;. Nick Foligno scored the game winner with 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation Thursday night as the Senators defeated the Florida Panthers 4-3. cheap jerseys from china. The first half was wide open as New York (4-1-3) took an early lead through Henry, who raced into the penalty area to collect a diagonal ball from Dane Richards, round goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and roll the ball into the net. cheap jerseys.J. -- New York Jets defensive tackle Sione Pouha is questionable to play in the teams season opener against Buffalo, and not out, as coach Rex Ryan initially announced. EDMONTON -- Aaron Pitchkolan scored late as the Puerto Rico Islanders shut out FC Edmonton 1-0 in North American Soccer League action Saturday. After Edmonton defender Paul Hamilton cleared the ball out of the penalty area, Pitchkolan turned and hammered it back into the goal from 20 yards out in injury time. "Its pretty disheartening," said Haamilton.dddddddddddd "I think we played a lot better as a team today. We are on a streak right now where nothing is going our way." Hamilton had his own shot at a goal after directing a header that Islanders goalkeeper Ray Burse was able to tip over the bar. The win improved Puerto Rico to 9-5-5 while Edmonton dropped to 7-9-4.
