• According to a report in the Hamilton Spectator, Chris Williams is looking to have the final year of his contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats voided. Williams unhappiness with the Tiger-Cats was reported by TSNs Dave Naylor last month and now the Spectator reports Williams has asked the CFL Players Association to look into whether the Ticats violated a provision within the collective bargaining agreement that could lead to the final year of his contract with the team being voided. The provision in question stipulates every player must be offered a minimum-term contract (one year plus an option held by the club). Williams was signed to a two-year plus an option contract by Hamilton in 2011, and according to the report, claims he was never offered the minimum-term deal. The report states the Ticats are aware of Williams concerns, but have not yet received a formal complaint from Williams or his agent. Williams was named Most Outstanding Rookie in 2011, his first year in Hamilton, and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player last season. The 25-year-old New Mexico product led the team in receiving yards and set a CFL record with six return touchdowns on the year. The two-year CFLer is looking to void his deal presumably to pursue NFL opportunities, where he could earn considerably more money than what his current contract pays him.
