Good day.
In a nutshell, this map is a melee game only technology is slowed down drastically; most games should last an hour or so. Fitting for the map's namesake, there are elements of Civilization- in the ways of Unique Ability (UA) and Unique Units (UU) both of which can be enabled or disabled.
There are 16 UAs and 30 UUs (you get 2 UUs per game), so each game should be totally unique. Visit here for the exhaustive list. I'd like to think that those are balanced, but invariably that won't be true. If you have a suggestion for improvements plop down a comment or send an email to ej1053@hotmail.co.kr.
There are other differences of course:
- Taxes: You pay a race-specific (and at times unit-specific) maintenance fee. (In early builds of the game an endless swarm of zealots/marines/zerglings won every game)
- Gas costs for units are heavily decreased, while tech buildings' gas costs are heavily increased. (Gas is 'science' here)
- Air units are extremely costly in gas. (Air units crush everything in island maps)
- You gain minerals per building razed. (Rewards fighting, rather than waiting for someone else to do so)
- You regain 3/4 of the gas if you lose a building. (So losing a tech building won't put you severely behind)
And other minor changes that you can read about in the help section. There were minor small changes that were "Wow, this is too much" levels, such as the Scanner energy cost.
Due to these changes, conventional melee strategies will probably not work, and bottom tier units (queens, dark archons) will probably become more effective. In a similar vein you don't need crazy high APM, although APM will definitely help.
FAQ:
Q: Why didn't you just make one map and have empty player slots automatically become AI?
A: Try as I might, I've been unable to. Maybe when SC:R's team improves the map editor things may change. Or someone will give me some tips.
Q: Why do you use Civ V sound effects and influences? You know Civ VI is out right?
A: Because if I'm combining a Civilization game with Starcraft, I wanted to choose a good one.
Q: Normal units can be overpowered. Are you willing to change them?
A: Sure. I have a feeling Queens or Science Vessels will become ridiculously broken, so I could conceivably nerf them in the future.
Q: I see that Yggdrasil is missing from the Zerg heroes. Why?
A: Because it's boring.
Q: Eugenics?
A: Eugenics.
