The very first thing you need to do is claim a Zone (any one of 32 smaller zones) with a Drone. You need 175 Minerals in order for the game to Spawn you one. If you would like to take more Zones, just save up to 175 Minerals and you will get a new Drone next to your main building.

After you've taken a Zone you may Upgrade it to either a Sunken or Spore Colony. This will determine what Units your Zone will Spawn after the Upgrade. You may view the Evolves Chart in the top left to help you guide your choice for Evolving your Zone.

You are advised to use the Auto Attack feature. There is a panel in the mid-left which you may utilize at will.

You will automatically receive both Minerals and Civilians in time. Minerals can be used to claim more Zones, Evolve your Zones (Spawns better Units), or buy Upgrades for your Units. Civilians may be used to Spawn bonus Units or a 35 mineral bonus (if you so desire). You may accumulate a max of 10 Civilians at any time, spend them before you're maxed.
