Your Battle.net account is slowly becoming the commodity that represents you as a Blizzard gamer. Slowly but surely, your Battle.net identity is going to morph more and more into a social profile. World of Warcraft's armory website was the prototype. The new WoW community site takes things one step further. Over time, Battle.net could look like a Blizzard Facebook, as you friend people on the site, communicate in and out of game via a unified mailbox, and share screenshots and information wit...

Heart of the Swarm delivers the zerg campaign – the second of three campaigns that make up the entire SCII experience. The first, Wings of Liberty, released in July to critical and commercial acclaim.
"We're working on it as hard as we can. We're really trying to push on this and get it out as soon as we can.
"I don't think you'll be playing it this year. That seems very unlikely to me. But we're pounding away on it as fast as we possibly can."

Twenty years is an eternity in the games industry. Few studios last anywhere near that long before either being consumed within a publishing company, or closing down entirely. Formed this week in February 1991, Blizzard Entertainment (then known as Silicon & Synapse), has not only survived, it has become one of the most powerful names in the industry, its name forged with Activision's to form the industry's largest publisher.
The compay's big brands – Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and World ...

According to Blizzard, two new games will be released in 2012 if nothing gets released in 2011. So basically we have a "It'll be released when it's done" here.
During an investors conference call today, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime revealed the news that we won't be seeing any of the company's games this year. It's also hesitant to announce any release date for Diablo III because it doesn't want to rush the game and risk its quality.
Besides Diablo III, Blizzard c...

The StarCraft AI competition was created to harness and promote StarCraft as a research environment. AI researchers have used RTS games in the past, but their efforts were hampered by the technology available. Open-source games were buggy and untested, and commercial games like StarCraft were inaccessible.
This changed in early 2009 with the release of the Brood War API (BWAPI), an open-source toolkit developed by a group of enthusiasts that gives direct access to the game. Ben Weber, a s...

After a long weekend of digging through the maps, and consideration of the community's feedback we've chosen the winners for the melee map making contest. There were over 100 entries, and we had to narrow it down to only 5.
Grand Prize Winner
First off, our grand prize winner, for an NVIDIA GTX 460 graphics card:
Dunes of Despair
This was an amazing map to play, and the quality is almost as much as I could expect out of any competitive map. It's very pleasant to look at, and w...

Our contest for August is being sponsored by NVIDIA, and they're going to give one lucky winner a brand new graphics card to make sure your game is the best it can be. This also marks our first true mapping contest, so get those editors running.
For more details, and to enter the contest, head on over to the StarCraft 2 melee map making details page.

I've been given the opportunity to review one of the new mid class cards from NVIDIA, the GeForce GTX 460. These typically run around $200, which in the past would get you mediocre results at best. I can't quite say what has changed in the last few years, but I can say that the game is changing. To give some background for this, I've ...

We will be moving the Nibbits.com infrastructure to a new server at 12AM PST (about 2 hours from this post) tonight.
The site may be down momentarily during the switch, but it should last no longer than 30 minutes.
Update: There's been a delay in the transfer. We'll update this post before beginning the maintenance. If it's not ready within the next hour it will be moved to Wednesday the 28th.
Update 2: Moving media is taking much longer than expected. The switch will be delayed unti...

The long awaited day has arrived, and the GameStops have been conquered. After 10 years, today marks the release of StarCraft 2. If you ordered your copy digitally, or were one of the lucky to show up at a midnight release, then you're already experiencing what everyone else is waiting for.
For everyone else, we anxiously await your overnight shipment tomorrow morning, and look forward to seeing you in game!
Oh, and while I've got you here. Make sure you check back Monday when we launc...

If you're still one of the unlucky few to not have a beta account, here's your chance to win a beta key. How do you enter? Well, we'll keep this one simple. Reply to this article and tell us what you love, and what you hate about Nibbits. We're not looking for the best answers, but definitely will not be giving keys to the worst (and I dont mean worst, by you hurt our feelings). Just interested in general feedback and things you'd like to see over here.
Right now we have no keys to give aw...

Today, April 8th, marks Nibbits' two year anniversary. It's been a fun journey, and boy has the site changed. Today I took the opportunity to dig up some images I had taken before I converted the old Nibbits (had nothing to do with maps), to the new version, which is what you see now.
Originally, I had started the domain off as a file search site. We didn't host any file, but rather we let people submit links to find files. It worked decently for WoW patches, and we had a big directory of ...

In UMS maps, the unit stats can be modified for different roles and balancing. Weak units like marines or zerglings can be made stronger as hero units with very fast movements.
In order to edit the unit stats, scroll down the Scenario menu at the top menu bar and click on Unit Settings. Toggle the check box that says "Enabled by Default" depending on whether you want the players with default settings to be able to create the unit. You can create exceptions to the default settings by choos...

I'd like to announce the winner of our first official monthly drawing..
Congratulations to DrCometh! There were nearly 1500 raffle entries this month.
For next month we're adding one more stipulation to the rules. I was worried that the winner would come out to be someone who registered, clicked enter, and never visited the site again. Luckily, that didn't happen. However, for next month's contest we will be requiring you to have a minimum of 10 posts by the time the contest ends.

Evening everyone!
I've come to recruit you to review your favorite maps. At Nibbits we're moving away from the typical ratings (since they're crap), and forcing users to write detailed (at least semi) reviews. The system isn't completely transitioned yet, but you can already review maps. The eventual switchover will remove generic "ratings" from all pieces of content on our site, and replace with with a simplified Like/Dislike system (details will come later). Reviews are going to have a M...

Color is often a tricky and difficult aspect of starcraft mapping. Other than for text messages, unit names, and mission objectives after game starts, colors usually do not appear accurately and sometimes depend on certain conditions.
These colors on buildings and men appear in broken mix of bright and dark pixels.
Unit colors in minimap in Badlands/Jungle/Desert/Ice/Twilight (scx)
Cyan --> Black
Pale Yellow (2nd) --> dark red
Pale blue --> blinking shade
Pale green --> light grey... -
It is possible to show pictures/diagrams both on the minimap and the game view.
To display a picture on the minimap, first go download SCPM Picture Mapper (http://sc.nibbits.com/assets/scpm-image-to-map-converter/).
Extract the program, run it, click 'Load Image' and select the picture you want to convert, check 'create uncompressed scenario,' select location where you want to produce the scm, and then 'Create Map.'
For best results, you may 1) crop and resize the image to 128 x 128 ...

There are several ways to make units invincible in Starcraft.
First, select units can be made invincible from the start of the game by editing the unit properties.
Second, invincibility can be toggled (disabled --> enabled ; enabled --> disabled) during the game through the 'set invincibility' trigger.
For example,
Trigger("All players"){
Conditions:
Bring("Current Player", "Terran Wraith", "009", At least, 1);
Deaths("Current Player", "Zerg Evolution Chamber", Exactly, ... -
As most of you are aware, we've been having an ongoing contest to win a pre-order of StarCraft II. Now I'm not going to talk too much about that contest, but I want to talk to you about our next contest.
Our next contest is going to be centered around authors. What kind of authors? Well, all kinds. We're not talking about just map makers, but anyone who has the ability to throw together a decent guide for any of our games. These guides can range from things like writing basic galaxy script...

Maps are always the dynamic factor in Starcraft play. Players design strategies to take advantage of map features, giving them the edge against their opponent. Starcraft hasn't become old and boring because of the constant stream of new maps and strategies created from them. In this article we will compare and analyse Starcraft I map features and then talk about what will make a good Starcraft II map.
The Starcraft map Python is often seen as a standard map for competitive play. It's fair,...
